We have Seized Over 200 Unregistered Vehicles - LASTMA

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has taken proactive measures to bolster road safety, security, and the oversight of the transportation sector. Led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, the LASTMA team revealed that they have apprehended over 200 unregistered and unpainted vehicles within the past 48 hours.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Hon. Giwa pointed out that several transportation companies operating in the CMS, Obalende, Ajah, and Ojo Cantonment areas have been running their vehicle fleets without the appropriate documentation.

He emphasized that unregistered vehicles pose a significant risk to road safety and security. These vehicles often evade essential inspections and regulatory measures, potentially compromising their roadworthiness. Hon. Giwa clarified that this enforcement exercise is designed to address this issue by ensuring that all vehicles on Lagos State roads comply with the necessary registration and licensing requirements.

Giwa emphasized that the enforcement operation has uncovered the fact that specific transportation companies in the CMS, Obalende, Ajah, and Ojo Cantonment areas have been operating their vehicle fleets without the required documentation. He underlined the seriousness with which the State Government regards this matter and stated that such companies will be held accountable for their actions.

“Transport companies discovered to be operating without the necessary documentation will face legal repercussions” he said

In addition, the Special Adviser stressed the significance of vehicle registration and compliance with transportation regulations. He clarified that the seized vehicles will only be released once they have undergone proper registration and meet all essential safety standards.

He reiterated the State Government's unswerving commitment to enhancing road safety and ensuring that all transportation operators adhere to the mandated regulations. This ongoing crackdown is one of the State Government's many initiatives aimed at creating safer and more efficient transportation systems in Lagos State.
